Change Your Perspective with the help of these lines
Viktor Frankl is well-known for his great work, “A Man’s Search for Meaning.” He was once a prisoner at the Auschwitz concentration camp and he survived it with his ability to think in a different way. His insights can help you to find meaning in your life and improve it by changing your perspective and the way you think.
1. “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.”
Because of the stimulus, there will be a response. But before you respond to any stimuli, you will have some space and time and it is possible for you to decide how you would like to reply or react to the stimuli or anything that has happened. And your response will decide how your life will be.
2. “In some way, suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning.”
Life has no meaning except the meaning we give it.
So even though you suffer in your life, if you can find the meaning in that or if you can assign meaning to everything happening, it will become meaningful for you. The moment you are able to find a meaning or assign meaning, your suffering will evaporate and you will suffer no more.
3. “The more one forgets himself — by giving himself to a cause to serve or another person to love — the more human he is and the more he actualizes himself.”
Life is always more than you. It’s not only about you- about your money, carrier, house, spouse, children etc. Life is more about what you have done for other people. If you are helping other people, serving other people, that is your actualisation and then you become a true human being.
4. “For the world is in a bad state, but everything will become still worse unless each of us does his best.”
Even though as individuals, you and I may not be able to change the world as you want it to be, to be better but that doesn’t mean we just simply sit and do nothing. It means we do whatever we can the best way possible to make this world better. Over a time, such individual and small things will come together to create the big difference to make this world a better place to live.
5. “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
If you face a situation where you cannot do anything about it, you can accept it and move on. You can choose other options available to you. But if you cannot change a situation, there is a very powerful option that you have- to change yourself.
Because handling such a situation and managing it needs more than what you are and you can do that only when you challenge yourself to change and to adapt to the situation. If you can change yourself, you’ll be able to sail right through the situation and probably find yourself a better person at the end of the situation.
